Hi Stanley.

Thanks very much for the information. It certainly is of interest to me as =
I am fairly certain that I am descended from Hugh Roper. I was recently =
told that he lived at a place called Cluer Field which was apparently =
close to the baptist Chapel and somewhere near Cocklake post Office. I did =
not know that he was a Baptist however. I have been looking for his =
marriage for some time. Perhaps it would be with the Crickham Baptist =
Records. I suspect his marriage precedes the records. I ll try to check =
them.=20

Thank you very much.=20

Hello every one,

This may be of interest to Roger ROPER.

There is a Baptist Chapel at Crickham which was built in 1841. Before the
chapel was built the local baptists met at the house of Hugh ROPER and
William LAWRY was the minister.

Unfortunately I can't give the exact reference for this bit of information.=

My late wife did the research back in 1990, I think she found the
application for a licence to hold non-comformist meetings in the Somerset
Record Office. This application contained the information.

And a few more names. When the chapel was built several local people acted
as trustees, they were:

Edmund WALL of Crickham, Yeoman.
Sam SLADE of Crickham.
Jeremiah WALL of Crickham.
James HOLE of Crickham.
John WALL of Crickham.
Joseph CARVER of Crickham.
Robert TUCKER of Cocklake.
Edward TUCKER of Cocklake.
John POPLE the younger of Cocklake.
Benjamin WALL of Clewer.
John LEE of Clewer.
Edmund HOLE of Clewer.
Joseph GANE of Wedmore, Cooper.

The above names were from the Crickham Baptist Chapel records.
