Tim Curtin sent me an email while the reply set-up was for individuals
only. But I thought it had lots of interesting stuff. He, and the others
who wrote to me, might like to copy their messages to the list?

We've been having a bit of a barney over cricket - and I thought it would
be interesting to get more details (as a follow up to the suggestion re
Wedmore area general topics - not just family relationships).

I learned about this from a really excellent book

Title: Avalon and Sedgemoor
Author: Desmond Hawkins 1908-
Publisher: David & Charles, Newton Abbot (1973)

I had just glanced at it before, so I went back and looked at it a bit more
carefully - it provides great background on the general area. There are
just a few pages on Wedmore specifically, and I see that Tim is right (I
had glanced too quickly and confounded two separate sports) - there were
two Wall brothers who were famous champions of this wooden sword sort of
thing, and then there was a cricket team composed entirely of Walls.

Does Tim (or anyone else) know more about the archaic contest and/or the
cricket team?
