John, this came back as I evidently don't have your address correct so I
am sending it via the list.
Sorry as several on the list have already seen this. However, reading
the Millard-Tincknell messages, I sure wish I knew which Tinknell's that
George belonged to back then! And we do have Millards in the family
later.
Sandi

Hi John,
That is the question! I only wish I knew which Tincknell branch I
descend from! I am totally "brick walled" tracing back from my George
Tincknell b. abt 1821.
This is the situation:
George Tincknell and Betsey (Elizabeth) Roper (dau of Hugh & Jane Davis
Roper) were married 22 July 1843 at St Mary's Church in Wedmore. The
parish record lists Geo's father as Zebedee Padfield. We were in
Wedmore and Taunton at the Somerset Records office last July and had
hoped that we would find a bastardy bond for Zebedee and Geo's mother.
No luck with that altho we did find another bastardy bond for Zebedee
and for at least one of his brothers. Had hoped that would give us the
name of the mother ------- Tincknell. We have done some research on the
Padfield line now.
The parish record lists Elizabeth Bartlett as a witness at Geo &
Betsey's wedding. We think that she might be the daughter of Ann
Tincknell & Charles Bartlett m. 12 Dec 1822 but I wasn't able to find a
baptismal record for Elizabeth Bartlett or any other info on Ann
Tincknell. Working from an assumption that witnesses are usually
"family" or closely related. Are these names familiar to you?

Hugh Roper's family lived at Crickham. Actually the 1839-40 survey
showed his home at Cluer Field, up the hill from the Baptist Chapel.
(And Hugh was part of the Baptist movement) Do you know if there were
Tincknell's in Crickham? We had so little time in Wedmore that I wasn't
able to "dig" too much. Did get to visit with Hazel Hudson (are you
familiar with her?) and she indicated that most of the Barletts that she
knew of were from around Nyeland. I'm not clear about where that is/was
in relationship to Wedmore or Crickham.

Any suggestions or help you might have would be greatly appreciated!
