Hello List,

    One of my Lader/Larder cousins, Jan Larder-Davis and her family from
Kidderminster, England has been visiting us for the Christmas holidays.
We drove up to my hometown, Skaneateles, New York, where my great
grandfather Paul Larder and my grandmother Eliza Phippen settled in c.
1855-56.  Walking through Lakeview Cemetery, we were struck by the large
number of Wedmore names that appeared on the tombstones.  I've often
wondered why so many from the Somerset area were attracted to
Skaneateles.  Certainly the availability of the land, the abundance of
teasels grown there, the general "climate" of the area would be some
reasons.  But does anyone on the list know of any types of "advertising"
in the 19th century that would perhaps have mentioned this otherwise
quite small town?
