Hello Sandi
Thanks for replying -
The initial pointer of Julia's death came as a hand written note to the side
of some document at the Taunton Record office on Obridbe Road, Taunton and
stated under a headeline entitled "Deaths Overseas" - I believe this might
have been entred by the Rev. Hervey. It stated, Julia Coombes Mapstone died
at Council Bluffs, Iowa, USA in 1887. Some years later I found myself at the
State Library in Des Moines and after 2 1/2 days found an entry in a local
newaspaper that stated she had died of Phemonia ( most likely a wrong
spelling of the desease) and further stated the place of residence as Denison
and that she was buried in a small community about 10 miles south-west away (
I presently need to dig that place name info out).
I believe the cemetary was called Mount Pleasant if that rings any bells.
I think Stephen's MI inscription stated he had died in 1911.
BTW - I'm now living in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.
Best Regards
Martin.
