Hi Julie,

It's the diary of Dr. John Westover, a surgeon who lived and practised =
medicine in Wedmore in the mid-1600s. His diary was at least partially =
covered in the Wedmore Chronicles of Rev. Hervey. You can read volume =
II of these chronicles on Michael Tutton's website =
http://www.tutton.org/wedchro.html

It's a fascinating read and we are indebted to Michael for arranging to =
have it all available on the internet.

Nancy

  Many thanks

    Sue,

Is this the same diary that Rev. Hervey references in the Wedmore =
Chronicles?

Would love to have a photocopy of it. Will eagerly await word on =
whether that is a possibility. I wonder who has possession of the =
original diary.

Sue, thank you again for all your efforts. You are a tremendous =
help to so many of us!

    Nancy

      Hi everyone

I've spoken to David Bromwich at the Somerset Studies centre. The =
good news is that the diary has been transcribed, and there is a =
reference copy of the transcription on the shelf of the Somerset Studies =
Library at Taunton, edited by William G. Hall, Dec. 1992. The bad news =
is, it is a typed copy, so it doesn't look as though it has been =
published, making this the only copy we know of. It's over 260 pages =
long, so even if I went into Taunton to transcribe it for my Wedmore =
friends, it would take the best part of a month of Sundays (plus I'm =
unsure of the copyright ethics in this case - would my copying an =
edited copy constitute breach of copyright? Hopefully, someone here can =
tell me!).

David thinks he has William G Hall's Devon address if none of us =
already has it, so just in case, he said he'd leave a note of it at the =
library on Monday for me (Monday is David's day off). David also =
suggested that perhaps we should see if Mr Hall would perhaps let us =
have a photocopy of the diary, which would certainly be a lot better =
than nothing.

      Cheers!

      Sue
