Hi karla

I have the UK ordinance Survey map known as Explorer series for the =
Wedmore area to a scale of 1:25 000 and very roughly it seems about 9 =
kilometres east to west and 7 north to south. Perhaps Stan can be more =
accurate.

They are civil parishes and have existed much the same for hundreds of =
years although originally they may have have been religious.

That is a good map - I like how I can narrow in on an area. Can you =
tell me how the "parishes" in England compare to something in the USA? =
Are they religious or civil parishes? Are they the equivalent of our =
townships (smaller areas within a county) or a county? For example - =
how large in terms of miles N-S and E-W is Wedmore? I'm trying to get a =
handle on all this :o)
  Thanks Stan!
  Karla
