Hi Tim,

Hi Stephen

All very perplexing I agree: my comments in Italics are appended.

  Hi Tim,
       I was very interested in your mention of Uriah Wall. I have three =
of them in my data base and perhaps you can help me out with some =
associated problems.
       The first Uriah Wall baptised 19 Nov 1777.....parentage unknown.
  =20
  I think he may have been son of John Wall and Sarah Fuller, as they =
were of Clewer when Sarah died in 1792.
  =20
  This is undoubtedly correct and Uriah fills that gap rather nicely =
between Benjamin baptised on 7 Sep 1775 and Sarah on 27 Aug 1780.
  =20
   I believe he married Ann Haggs at Wedmore in 1805=20
  =20
  Haggs and Higgs were interchangeable spellings - and while Ann Haggs =
was daughter of John and Sarah Haggs, a John Higgs married a Sarah =
Tutton in 1780.
  =20
  and had the following children ;
       John 1807 , William 1808 , Uriah 1809 , Edmund 1811 and Nancy in =
1816.

  His wife Ann died in Sep 1821 and he then married Hannah Drew at =
Wedmore in Feb 1823. They had the following children ;
       Hannah 1823 and James Tutton in 1827. The first question is why =
was this last son baptised James Tutton?
  =20
  Perhaps if implausibly after his first mother-in-law!

  Hmmm......anything is possible I suppose! I think I should research =
this further.
  =20
  Perhaps Michael  would know?

  This Uriah died at Crickham in Jul 1835 at the age of 58. His second =
wife Hannah died four years ealier at Crickham in Dec 1831 at the age of =
47. Is this indeed the Hannah Drew baptised at Wedmore on 2 Feb 1792 or =
another? Is there an error in the registers as this Hannah would be only =
39 in Dec 1831?

  We know baptisms sometimes were several years after births, and this =
may be one of them.

  This is possible although it appears that Richard Drew and his wife =
Elizabeth baptised their children in order.

  Alternatively the burial could refer to Hannah wife of John Wall who =
were parents of Sarah bap. Sept 1805

  This is interesting? Do you know who these folks were? Looking in =
Herveys Index No.1 of the Wedmore registers a John Wall is listed as =
being married at Wedmore in 1789. However the marriage list for 1789 =
does not include a John Wall! Jonathon Wall and Hannah Binning married =
in 1789 and I assume this is simply an error. It is certainly possible =
that Sarah baptised Sep 1805 is their daughter , again filling the gap =
between Toby in 1803 and Mary in 1807 but this would again call for an =
error in the entry....listing Jonathon as John! Hannah ( Binning ) Wall =
died at Heathhouse in Mar 1813.

     The second Uriah is the son mentioned above and baptised at Wedmore =
on 27 Dec 1809. He married Mary? about 1834 and migrated to Bristol but =
at least some of his children were returned to Wedmore for baptism. This =
couple had numerous children many of whom died in infancy. He can be =
found in the 1851 Census living in the parish of St.Phillip and Jacob , =
Bristol. I understand that one of his sons emigrated to Quebec.
  =20
       The third Uriah Wall was the son of Benjamin Wall and his wife =
Christopheranna Wiseman and was baptised at Wedmore on 11 Jan 1804. He =
died at Cluer aged 50 in Jan 1853. He married Eliza? about 1826 and had =
two sons William in 1827 and George baptised 1 Apr 1835 and is shown in =
the 1851 Census as a widower. Do you know who is wife was?=20
  =20
  No I don't!=20
  =20
  I cannot find her burial in the registers so I assume she was returned =
to her home parish for burial.=20

       Finally there is a Uriah Wall listed as farmer from Crickham and =
his wife Nancy who have the following children ;
       Sarah , baptised 9 Jun 1814 ; George , baptised 3 Jun 1819 and =
Hannah baptised 23 Jul 1821. I have been unable to reconcile these folks =
and any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Certainly =
these children would fit into the gaps between the birth of Edmund Wall =
in 1811 and the death of his mother Hannah Drew in 1823 and perhaps you =
have already determined that this is indeed the case? But why do the =
registers record the mother as Nancy? The only Nancy Wall I see in the =
burial register is in 1824 for the above mentioned Nancy baptised in =
1816.=20

  There are some instances of persons known under two names, which could =
apply to Ann and/or Nancy Haggs Wall given baptism of Nancy d of Uriah =
and Ann in 1816 - but this is pure speculation.
  =20
  Also I see that there were apparently three Uriah Walls in the 1840 =
Rate Book (reprinted in Cuthbert Rose's book), one was named junior, =
which suggests that Uriah of Crickham husband of Nancy is extra to those =
whose baptisms we know, as Uriah the 1st was dead by 1840.

  Excellent.....the non baptised Uriah husband of Nancy is the third but =
who he is remains a mystery.

  Clearly we need some additional source material - maybe Hazel Hudson =
could help. I will send you my GEDCOM separately(complete no doubt with =
lots of errors and false assumptions!)

       Also I would be greatly interested in your Gedcom file of the =
Walls
       Thanking you in advance and my best regards.
            Stephen L . Brown      slb2@ix.netcom.com
