One thing I've learned is that spelling of names is completely unstable -
on top of which the census enumerators obviously had a very difficult time
with all the different names and accents, and their handwriting can be
really hard to read. I was checking something for Sandi in the 1870 census
and saw Tincknell definitely written as "Tincne". Lynn's recent question
about Gould nudged me into looking at all the Golds in Dyersville in 1850 -
they were all "Gold".  But I suddenly saw Alfred Hughlet, and realized he
must be Hewlett. The "Frick" people in my census transcription are "Trick".
 I've also realized that Talbot/Talbert is written and spelled in all sorts
of ways.  Some census takers seem to put a middle cross over their T that
makes it look like an F.  I believe they also write down the wife's age as
10 years too much, sometimes - e.g. husband 32, wife 39 - it's a slip for
29.  I have now seen it several times.
