I don't have relatives who settled in Iowa - I'm just fascinated by the
details of Wedmore area emigration.

Using maps in conjunction with census records to tell you who settled as
neighbours is very interesting.

If you go to the various appropriate township plat maps for 1874 (e.g.
Taylor, Dodge, Cascade -- by that time New Wine township was nearly all
resettled by German immigrants) at

you will find out who lived where in 1874, the location of all the farms
around Cascade, Farley etc. - numerous Wedmore area names.  Quite
interesting to see how prosperous some of them were within a decade or two
of arrival in the US.
