Carol Raithel,
Fascinating information, thank you. Every bit adds to the story. Jordan
is just near Skaneateles, NY - we've heard about that as a destination for
Wedmore area people. Who went there first - was it because of dairy farming?
We hear about Burlington, Wisconsin quite often. Who went there first?
What did they do there? Here's a quote from an account of the life of a
Chapel Allerton man who went first to Canada and then down to Burlington
"where he was employed at building operations in that then-growing town,
assisting in the building of two mills on Fox river there". Then on to
Dyersville in early 1851.
Who first went to the Dyersville area? So far the best guess seems to be
the Radfords.
Wedmorians certainly had the pioneering spirit, but a strong tendency to
seek out their own.
