Yes, the dates and information you gave about Jeremiah Gibbs =
coincides with our family records. First, I must give credit to Charles =
Gibbs, a cousin of mine , now retired and living in Oregon, for all the =
research and documentation he has done on the Gibbs's from Wedmore to =
the present day. It was from him that I have learned most of my =
information on the William Gibbs from Wedmore line. According to our =
records, Jeremiah was born Jan.3,1813 at Wedmore and died Feb. 2,1898 in =
Delhi Township, Delaware Cy, Iowa and is buried at Fairview Cemetery in =
Earlville, IA
William Gibbs, the father of Jeremiah Gibbs came first to America =
along with his wife Nancy Wall Gibbs and their younger children and =
settled in Jordan , NY sometime after 1842 and before 1845. In about =
1848 his son Jeremiah and wife Elizabeth (Ford) and 4 children came to =
America and settled for a while in Jordan near his parents. By 1850 they =
were in WI and in 1851 were in Iowa where he homesteaded. His father =
William never lived near Earlville but after his wife Nancy died and was =
buried near Jordan , NY he came to Iowa to live near another son Charles =
and wife near Janesville, Iowa, He died there in 1862 and is buried in =
the Janesvile Cemetery.=20

Living near Dyersville I know several people well versed in Dyersville =
history and belonging to the Dyersville Historical society. I asked =
them if they could answer the above question. The best information =
they could find was in Halbach's History of Dyersville giving the =
dates from 1833-37 when the names of Theophilus Crawford, Mr. Mouncy, =
Mr. Hewitt and Thomas Riggs were listed as the earliest residents of =
southern New Wine township where Dyersville is now located. This would =
seem to predate the Dyers.
