Hello Elaine, Heath House is one of the largest hamlets in the parish of
Wedmore, to the south of Wedmore village, the name is probably derived as
Stan says in his note. There was no big house. The Heath is a large area of
low lying land to the
south again. It was and still is subject to flooding in times of high
rainfall, dozens of properties have been abandoned there in the last hundred
years. The area is now usually known as Tealham and Tadham Moor. In theory
the names on the census should be in sequence, and you can work out who
lives where once you have a starting point. This is easier said than done as
you have to take account new houses and those that have disappeared. Also
the layout of houses is not linear and there may be an element of choice in
what sequence the returning officer used. The introduction to the census
will list the areas covered in the following pages, but the limits may be
set by names that are local, sometimes properties are referred to by their
occupants. Sometimes the actual name of the property is shown on the census
return, but you can't depend on it. I know Heath House very well as it is
next door in effect. I also know more of less where the Duckett families
were in 1851 and 1881 that gives a starting point. If you have any clues you
can give me, I may be able to help, especially if you are here next month.
Regards Matthew.
