Martin,
Thank you for your email.
Would I be correct in saying that the name COOMBS-MAPSTONE came about =
- =20
Mary COOMBS, died 1810, had a son Robert COOMBS (illegitimate) in 1788. =
Mary COOMBS married James MAPSTONE on the 5th September 1791.
Robert COOMBS, the son born 1788, legally changed his name in 1820 to =
Robert COOMBS MAPSTONE. He thus retained his mother's name and gained =
the name of his step father.
I have a copy of the Marriage Certificate of Hester or Hesther COOMBS, =
who I believe is this Robert's daughter. The name shown is Hester =
COOMBS. Hester shows her father as Robert COOMBS. (No MAPSTONE). I =
note that this Hester signs on the Wedding Certificate as Hesther. Note =
the additional "H".
My records show that Robert COOMBS, born 1788, married Ann Ham on the =
24th April 1815. Children born were George, 1817, John, born 1818, =
Sally, born 1820, Hester, born 1824, William, born 1826, Ann, born 1829, =
and Benjamin, born 1830. It is thought that Hester, born 1824 may have =
died in 1842 in Wells. I have her as being married in Bristol in 1843 =
to Stephen MILLARD?
Martin, or other Listers, do you agree with this? Joe. ps =
I do not have any later data on this family. jc
