Since I live about an hour's drive from Fosterville Cemetery, and since
yesterday was a beautiful sunny day, my husband and I drove to Fosterville. It's
in Cayuga County on Fosterville Road, near the town of Aurelius.
Unfortunately, the cemetery is in horrible condition. If I had to guess, it has about
200-300 tombstones, but I will check when I have the opportunity at the Cayuga
County Historian's Office to see if they have any records for it. The cemetery
is mowed, but that's about all I can say for it. There is a large tree that
has fallen across the grass in the middle of the cemetery that has not been
taken out of there, even though it is possibly covering a couple of stones. There
are many broken and tipped over stones, I think many in that condition
because of pure vandalism. There was one granite stone in excellent condition for
FEAR. I found it just before we left the cemetery and did not write down the
names and dates on it, but there were three people memoralized on it. I took a
photograph, and when I get it back in about two weeks, I will post the
information on this site for anyone interested in the FEAR family who settled in
Cayuga County. Barbara (interested in Coombe, Thomas, Evans) of Wedmore and NY
state.
