This came from another list where they were discussing immigration from
Somerset to Iowa mid 1800s. Thought it might be interesting for those with
US
families.

"The Talbot family from Street advertised their employment bureau regularly
in the Mid-Somerset Mercury.  The services they offered were - to find you a
job before you left England.  To arrange the train journey from Somerset to
Liverpool where they would be met and accommodated until the ship left, cost
of shipping and they would be met in the US, accommodated again and then put
on the train to their final destination and their employment.  They also
made the same arrangements for Australia and South Africa."
