Thank you for this, Stan.
My grandfather, Samuel Latcham, emigrated to Manitoba, Canada in 1890.
He said there were posters and advertisments extolling the wonderful life
to be had farming in Manitoba
so he left England for Manitoba.
Generations later his great-grandaughter, my daughter, lives in England.
But what is interesting, at least to me,
is that in 1992 she saw an advertisment in the local paper in Devon:
"A Realistic Alternative to Farming in the UK
MANITOBA, CANADA
Jack Nesbit, Immigrant, Farmer, and Realator will be holding an open meeting at
the following venue" etc etc "Hear about the service we offer and how you
can sample life on a Manitoba farm."
