Hi Barbara

Form the FreeBMD website ( http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/) there was a George
Evans married in Axbridge Registration District (which covered Wedmore,
Burnham etc) in the September quarter of 1844, Vol 10, page 483. By
searching for marriages for a George Evans in Axbridge RD and then clicking
on the page number you can then bring up all the names of those whose
marriages were recorded on this page. This reveals three other names:

Frederic DIX
Mary STAR
Elizabeth HODGES

Marriages for 1844 are about 60% complete so far on FreeBMD and it is
likely there are four or so more names to come on this page, so the best
that can be said is that Elizabeth Hodges MAY have been George Junior's
mother. If you are able to order his birth certificate, the mother's maiden
name should be given and that would confirm things.

This trick is very useful when used with the 1881 or 1901 census and at
later periods there only four names in total per page, so identifying the
right spouse is much easier.
