Subject: re millar miller family
I am still looking for the maiden name of James Dyer jr's mother, Mary =
--- who died in Yatton and is buried there, d. 25 may 1823 age 28 years.
I have not been able to find a marriage record of James Dyer Sr and Mary =
---, but suppose her maiden name began with M as James Dyer jr was given =
a trick mug dated 1820 (his year of birth) with the initials JMD.
In 1847 when the family emigrated to America from Liverpool they took =
with them a young girl as a servant, in the 1850 census there is an =
Elizabeth Miller, 15, with the James Dyer jr family in Dyersville.
In the same census, living with James Dyer's sister, Jane (Jennie) Dyer =
Young and her husband John Young a Methodist minister is a Thomas M =
Miller, 45 a farmer.
by 1860 Thomas M. Miller is in Waterloo IA with his wife Anna. =
Ancestry.com has a family tree for Thomas Millar Miller, b. England =
1802, and Anne Young his wife, b. 30 july 1807 Weare, Somerset England. =
Their daughter Elizabeth Millar Miller, b. 5 aug 1836 England, left the =
Dyers after 1850. There is an undated letter in the Dyer family papers =
from a Fred Jesup of Dubuque, saying that "Mrs. Stimson will be glad to =
receive Elizabeth as soon as she can leave Dyersville, any time next =
week", so we can presume she went to Dubuque to work there.
Elizabeth Millar Miller married a William Franklin Dove, b. 21 sep 1838 =
in Wick, St. Lawrence, Somerset, and died 25 dec 1886 in Beaman IA. =
Elizabeth herself died 15 dec in Parkston SD.
Their daughter Nellie Maria Dove was born 18 nov 1869 in Offerville IA, =
and married William H. Shaw.
I wonder if anyone has Millar/Miller connections, do you know about the =
marriage of Anna Young and Thomas Millar Miller in Weare. What is the =
connection of Anna with John Young the Methodist minister?
Above all is there a Mary Millar/Miller who might have been born 1795 =
who could have married James Dyer Sr?
Thanks for your help.
Very sincerely,
Mary M. Thacher
