Re: [WED]Duckett/KingstonHi Mel
Thanks for clearing it up as far as it goes!
Now what about the Tincknells, I'm from William Tincknell, baptised at =
Wedmore 14 October 1569. Is he in your family?
Good hunting
John

John,
No, this isn't Anne Kingsbury, but Ann Kingston. Anne Kingsbury is =
indeed one of my ancestors, too, but through the Tincknell side of my =
family. Ann Kingston, on the other hand, was born in Meare, baptized =
April 4, 1813. Her first son, John Kingston, was born out of wedlock, =
baptized in Meare, November 20, 1831. This John Kingston married first =
Ann Starr (baptized June 5, 1836 at Theale) with John's half-sister, =
Eliza Phippen, witnessing the marriage. Ann Kingston had married John =
Phippen sometime before 1834, though I have not found a marriage record. =
They lived in Wedmore (Theale). Ann Starr Kingston, according to =
family documents, left John Kingston and went to America with another =
man. In 1862, John Kingston and Elizabeth Duckett announced banns in =
the church at Theale (February 9, 16, 23, 1862, but no marriage ensued.) =
Banns were again announced April 20 and 27, and May 5, 1873 at Theale, =
followed by the marriage on May 5, 1873. All of this is from the Parish =
records of Theale within Wedmore, which is probably why you don't have =
it in the main Wedmore records. I hope this clears things up a little.
Mel
Hello Mel
Presumably we are talking about Anne Kingsbury who was baptised 21 =
December 1812 at Wedmore. I am in fact related to Ann Wall who married =
Charles Kingsbury, a brother of Anne's.
Can we perhaps have some dates and places of the events you mention, =
I cannot see a Kingston marriage in Wedmore in 1873.
I have transcribed the Wedmore baptisms - unchecked- from 1812 until =
1900 and the marriages post Hervey at the moment to 1865, again =
unchecked.
Best wishes
John Hayward

Hello all,
I submitted the following several days ago, but have not seen =
it actually posted on the Wedmore site. Thus, I am resubmitting it. =
Apologies if this was, in fact, posted previously and somewhow I missed =
it.
Mel
Thank you both, Matthew and John. Your information does help, and =
I will try
to pursue it further. Just by explanation of how this works with =
my line,
John Kingston was the illegitimate child of Ann Kingston who later =
married
John Phippen. John and Ann were my g-g grandparents; John =
Kingston thus was
half-brother of my great gradmother Eliza Phippen. Matthew, on =
the parish
records of John Kingston's marriage to Elizabeth Duckett, it does =
indeed say
that John is the son of John Phippen, but it also specifies that =
he was
illegitimate. This was John Kingston's second marriage. Though =
he says he
was widowed on the parish records, his first wife left him and =
came to
America with someone else. The Hembury name seems to make sense =
for
Elizabeth Duckett's nee, since a John Henbury was a witness at the =
wedding
in 1873.
I, too, cannot find John and Elizabeth in the 1881 census or =
any other
one after that, under either name. All I have found is Ellen =
Duckett, 13,
servant in the home of John and Mary Ann Porter, Wedmore, in 1881, =
and Sarah
Duckett, 19, servant, home of Andrew Knowles, Wedmore, also 1881. =
A search
for them in America has also been unsuccessful.
Thanks again, and let me know if you can use any further =
information
from me.
