Hi Barbara!
Apologies for the delayed response - this is the first time I've picked up the reigns of my genealogy since Christmas! Many thanks for the information about Jane (Thomas) Athay. Her children with Henry Fisher were Emma born c1877 and Oliver born c1879. I looked for her on the 1871 census but couldn't find her, so I looked for Amery Thomas and found 2 grandchildren children living there - Charles and Adaline. Adaline was only 8 months but there is no mention of Jane. I'll keep looking just in case I've missed something! Do you know what William died of?
Thanks
Liz

This couple had three children: Adeline; Elizabeth; and Charles. William Athey died in 1860, and it is certainly possible that Jane remarried to your ancestor, Henry Fisher. When William Athey died, the three children were very young, so it is also possible that these children were raised by Henry Fisher, though certainly even more possible that Jane and Henry had their own children to add to her three children. Let me know, if you will, the names of the children of Jane and Henry. Thanks for writing. Barbara

I am looking for Thomas John PHIPPEN on the 1891 Census.
He was b. 1872 in Burtle, Somerset.
1881 Census he is living with his parents Thomas & Jane Phippen, in Mark,
Somerset.
But he is down as John T. Phippen.
1901 Census he is living with his wife and children as is down as Thomas
John PHIPPEN.
Occupation is Platelayer. The family are living in Backwell, Long Ashton.
As yet my searches for the 1891 Census have not been successful. It has been
suggested I try the Army lists, I have googled this but all I am getting is
Zero results on "PHIPPEN".
Any suggestions to what else I might try.

Henry Clark and Ann Webb were reportedly the parents of my ancestor John
Clark, b. 1822 in Compton Bishop. He married Emma Atwell om 1847. This
couple had six children: James, Eliza Jane, Edward, Emily (my great grandmother),
Alice Maud, and Henry. I don't know if or when any of the above came to the
USA, except for Emily, who married John Hunt, of my town here in New York State.
Does anyone on this site also descend from this Clark, Webb, or Atwell
family? If so, I'd love to hear from you to compare notes. Barbara

I was wondering if any of the Duckett family on this list would be able to
help with the following. I am looking for information on Elizabeth Duckett
(presumably her married name), born about 1823 in Wedmore. By 1862, she
seems to have been widowed, when banns were announced for her and John
Kingston. No marriage occurred, however, until 1873 when banns were again
announced followed by their marriage on May 5. On the 1871 census, John
Kingston and Elizabeth Duckett were living together, with children all named
Duckett: Sarah A. (8), Robert (7), Mary (4), Ellen (2), and Alice (4
months). These children may have been by John Kingston, but it is unclear.
Does anyone have any information on Elizabeth, or the children?
Thanks.

I Mel
I don't know whether the following will help you, or muddy the waters!
On 23 April 1861 William Duckett married Elizabeth Ducket, both were aged
26. William was from Weare and Elizabeth from Heath House. Both their
fathers were Michael Ducketts and both were farmers. (Page 183, record 366).
I cannot see in the Wedmore registers the immediate burial of William.
An Elizabeth Duckett was baptised 12 July 1829, son of Henry and Maria
Duckett.
I have many Ducketts from Wedmore in my tree on www.rootsweb.com, I beleive
we have been in contact before.

Hi Mel,
I have this family in my records and can add a bit more. Elizabeth was born
a Hembury and married William Duckett on 13 8 1857 in Theale. William was I
think the son of Joseph Duckett and Grace Sarah nee Tilley. He was baptised
in Wedmore on 30 9 1811, died in Bristol and was buried in Theale on 21 8
1860. As far as I can see there were no children.
Elizabeth's age is a problem, I am uncertain as to the 1861 census but I
can find Elizabeth, widow, charwoman, aged 31 in Panborough, on her own. I
can see no reason why this is not her. I agree that her age in 1871 is given
as 48, but her age at her second marriage on 5 5 1873 is 40. Incidentally
John Kingston is given as the son of John Phippen.
I have the following relevant Duckett baptisms from Theale Parish, 14 6 1864
Robert son of Elizabeth, 10 5 1868, Mary daughter of John and Elizabeth!!
and Ellen daughter of Elizabeth. I do not have the others. I can not find
the family in 1881, but I have only used the Family Search Program and not
the original records. I suggest that the family may have reverted to the
name Kingston. However, on 26 3 1882 Elizabeth Ann Duckett daughter of Sarah
Anne was baptised at Theale. I think that this family must have given the
vicar of Theale a very hard time but perhaps he insisted on the use of the
name Duckett rather than Kingston.
The only other thing I can add is that there are no more recent details that
I have traced back to this family. Let me know if you have anything else.
Matthew.
