Hello Sandi,
Sarah wife of Thomas Duckett of Burlington, Wisconsin, was not a =
Tincknell. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Heath. The =
marriage took place in Weare, Somerset, UK on 25 1 1843. I think her =
parents lived in Weare; there were at least two more marriages between =
this branch of the Ducketts and the Heaths. These Ducketts lived in =
Crickham which is in the NW corner of Wedmore parish, Weare is the =
parish immediately west of Crickham. I do not know why Sarah is reported =
as a Tincknell, it may be that her mother Elizabeth was one. Walter was =
their only child and was born in the UK, but curiously I have yet to =
find a record of his birth or baptism.
George Duckett was Thomas's nephew and emigrated to Burlington in 1847. =
I do not know who Michael or Charlotte are, neither appear in my records =
if their ages are correct. There is a Michael missing from an earlier =
generation but he was born in 1785. There is also a "cousin" Charlotte =
missing, she was the illegitimate daughter of Edward Duckett and Jane =
White but was born in 1830. For the moment I am assuming that those you =
mention are unrelated Ducketts from another part of England and the =
meeting was initially by chance. I would be interested if anyone has =
further information.
I assume that your Burlington web site is The Burlington Historical =
Society. They sent me a considerable amount of material on the Ducketts =
a few years ago. Their address is, Burlington Historical Society, 232 N. =
Perkins Boulevard, Burlington, WI 53105. I do not have an e-mail or web =
address. I will look at the material that they sent me for Tincknell =
references.=20
It is also clear that the English settlement at Burlington and that at =
Dyersville, Iowa were closely associated.
I am interested in the details of their passage as it is an area I have =
not covered. Thomas should have been acccompanied by his half sister =
Sarah Gadd and her husband and step-brother (complicated) Joseph. Joseph =
and Sarah Gadd returned to the UK several times and encouraged others to =
make the journey.=20
Regards Matthew.
