When using the site it is worth noting that the 1881 Census data, which was  
based on registration districts, has somehow been translated to modern   
postcode data, which skews the results for names in some areas. Also the 1998  data 
is based on the electoral registers for that year, so does not include  those 
under 18 and any others not registered. However it does give some idea on  
the origins of a surname, and how the distribution has changed.
