Hi to all,
I am new to the list as of today, thanks to Roger Roper sending me
information about the list. We were fortunate to visit in Wedmore in
early July but the time went all too quickly! We did get a nice chat
with Hazel Hudson and toured St. Mary's church. Also spent one day at
the Taunton Records office. Which, of course, was not nearly enough
time.
My lines are through Hugh ROPER and Jane DAVIS ROPER's daughter,
Elizabeth (Betsey)who married George TINCKNELL on 22 July 1843 at St.
Mary's Church in Wedmore. From the marriage record it appears that
Zebedee PADFIELD of Leigh on Mendip was the acknowledged father of
George TINCKNELL. However, we were unable to find a bastardy bond for
this birth, although there was one for Zebedee PADFIELD for a female
child earlier. Also his brothers names appeared in parish fines pretty
regularly it seemed. We assume that the TINCKNELL name was the mother's
surname and any help in finding which family she was from would be
greatly appreciated!
My second Wedmore line is through the PARKERs. Joseph PARKER was born
in Wedmore March 29, 1820 according to family records and obit and was
the son of William PARKER of Wedmore, mother's name unknown. I found a
William PARKER and wife, Ann in the 1841 cencus and wonder if he might
be an older brother of Joseph. Gives his father as William also and he
was 25 in 1841. In an 1860 Iowa census for Joseph PARKER's family, it
includes Sarah A PARKER, age 16, b. in England but I was unable to find
a baptism for her or an earlier marriage in Wedmore for Joseph PARKER.
After the death of George TINCKNELL in Iowa his widow, Betsey ROPER
TINCKNELL married Joseph PARKER (also widowed) in Iowa in 1863. Later
on 1 March 1873 Joseph PARKER's son, Samuel PARKER married George &
Betsey TINCKNELL's daughter, Amelia A. Tincknell and their first child,
Elizabeth (Lizzie) B. PARKER was born 20 March 1874 and became my
maternal grandmother.
Any information on these families would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
