I'm afraid I have no information to give, but I'm impressed by the site,=0D
and I'm curious. I recently found a beautiful photograph of my great=0D
grandmother, Mary Day, and decided I wanted to know more about her. She=0D
was brought up in Minnesota, and chose to be returned there for burial, a=
t=0D
Graceville. =0D
=0D
I believe that Mary's father, Daniel, went to North America with his olde=
r=0D
brother, Arthur, and his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wall, who are buried in=
=0D
St. Charles, Minnesota. It seems likely that they left England in the=0D
1840s. Certainly, they had already purchased farm lands - straight-out=0D
cash sales, it seems - by 1853.=0D
=0D
The names Day and Wall seem to indicate a Wedmore/Weare connection - so I=
'm=0D
just interested, and willing to do any transcribing requested - just for =
fun
=0D
=0D
I note a comment in a history of the area about depopulation, and about=0D
emigration being encouraged after the repeal of the Corn Laws. I wonder i=
f=0D
there are lists of those given money or assistance?=0D
=0D
It would be interesting to know who left in the 1840s, if they travelled=0D
together, how they did in their new lives. I am very interested in the=0D
ways people migrate to North America and Australasia. Make an interesting=

=0D
Dear Sir, =0D
=0D
I was given your email address by Pat Rossiter who said you may be able t=
o
help with my family history. I apologise that I have not written down you=
r
name. Pat and I can both trace our ancestors to Wedmore, Somerset. We bot=
h
have Reeve or Reeves in our family tree. We may also be connected through
our Fisher ancestors.=0D
=0D
Firstly, to set the scene, my Reeves ancestors (of Rodney Stoke) go back =
to
John Reeves who married Joan Simmons in St Andrews, Cheddar on 16th Oct,
1752. I am a descendant of John's son and grandson, both named John. My
information came from Andy Beckett whom I have been unable to contact to
corroborate this information. Do you know of Andy Beckett - Reeves One Na=
me?=0D
=0D
John Reeves, baptised in 1775 in St Andrews, Cheddar, married Joanna Tayl=
or.
John's brother, William Reeves, baptised in 1777, is believed to have had=
 a
wife named Elizabeth who was born in Wedmore. It his the next generation =
of
William and Elizabeth Reeves which is proving difficult to piece together=
=2E
This is where I am hoping you might be able to help. I can send more deta=
ils
of what I have conjectured if this will help.=0D
=0D
Now for the Fisher connection. Joanna Taylor, baptised in Rodney Stoke in
1773 was the daughter of George Taylor who married Joanna Fisher on 1st M=
ay,
1769 in St Leonards, Rodney Stoke. It appears that Joanna may have been t=
he
daughter of John Fisher whose wife's name was Susannah. Any corroboration=
 of
this would be appreciated. John and Susannah's children were baptised in
Wedmore.=0D
=0D
The third enquiry relates to James Taylor whose wife's name was Hannah.
Hannah was born about 1750 and was buried in St Leonards, Rodney Stoke, a=
ged
67, on 6th Nov, 1817. On the IGI I found a James Taylor who married Hanna=
h
Raines in Wedmore on 5th January, 1775. Any more details about this would=
 be
of interest.=0D
=0D
The name of Ruth Tutton appears in a handwritten book which has been pass=
ed
down to us. It appears to have been written by John Reeves, dated 1799. I=
t
is a record of debts and expenses.=0D
