Hello Listers,
I have had some correspondence with Rosalind Torrent that has by-passed =
the list members. (This problem should now be solved by Michael's =
adjustment to the way the list is set up for replies.)
There are lots of names mentioned that might be of interest.
Rosalind's John Reeves notebook from the late 1700's might contain stuff =
of interest to many listers. I'm sure that Michael will be interested in =
the Ruth Tutton entry.
Rosalind's imminent receipt of the Rodney Stoke Church records might =
interest some of you.
I am sure all listers will join with me in wishing Michael and his =
fiancee health and happiness in their new home.

Dear Sir,=20
I was given your email address by Pat Rossiter who said you may be able =
to help with my family history. I apologise that I have not written down =
your name. Pat and I can both trace our ancestors to Wedmore, Somerset. =
We both have Reeve or Reeves in our family tree. We may also be =
connected through our Fisher ancestors.
Firstly, to set the scene, my Reeves ancestors (of Rodney Stoke) go back =
to John Reeves who married Joan Simmons in St Andrews, Cheddar on 16th =
Oct, 1752. I am a descendant of John's son and grandson, both named =
John. My information came from Andy Beckett whom I have been unable to =
contact to corroborate this information. Do you know of Andy Beckett - =
Reeves One Name?
John Reeves, baptised in 1775 in St Andrews, Cheddar, married Joanna =
Taylor. John's brother, William Reeves, baptised in 1777, is believed to =
have had a wife named Elizabeth who was born in Wedmore. It his the next =
generation of William and Elizabeth Reeves which is proving difficult to =
piece together. This is where I am hoping you might be able to help. I =
can send more details of what I have conjectured if this will help.
Now for the Fisher connection. Joanna Taylor, baptised in Rodney Stoke =
in 1773 was the daughter of George Taylor who married Joanna Fisher on =
1st May, 1769 in St Leonards, Rodney Stoke. It appears that Joanna may =
have been the daughter of John Fisher whose wife's name was Susannah. =
Any corroboration of this would be appreciated. John and Susannah's =
children were baptised in Wedmore.
The third enquiry relates to James Taylor whose wife's name was Hannah. =
Hannah was born about 1750 and was buried in St Leonards, Rodney Stoke, =
aged 67, on 6th Nov, 1817. On the IGI I found a James Taylor who married =
Hannah Raines in Wedmore on 5th January, 1775. Any more details about =
this would be of interest.
The name of Ruth Tutton appears in a handwritten book which has been =
passed down to us. It appears to have been written by John Reeves, dated =
1799. It is a record of debts and expenses.
Yours sincerely,
Rosalind Torrent=20

That James Taylor and Hannah Raines married in Wedmore is confirmed by =
the
Wedmore Register.
Their (first) child Ann was baptised in Wedmore on 10 October 1775 - Ann =
dau
of James and Hannah Taylor of Rodney Stoke.

Dear Stanley,
Thank you very much for the information about the marriage of James =
Taylor to Hannah Raines.
The baptism of their first child Ann was new information for me. Thank =
you. And the Rodney Stoke detail corroborates that I have found the =
right parents for my ancestor. (see next paragraph).
Are there baptisms for other children of James and Hannah Taylor in =
Wedmore? My ancestor was Sarah Taylor, daughter of James and Hannah =
Taylor. I have a baptism for her in Rodney Stoke on 25th Jan, 1788.
According to a grave in St Leonards, Rodney Stoke, there was a James =
Taylor, son of James and Hannah Taylor. He died on 28th August, 1810, =
aged 26, so he would have been born about 1784.=20
Perhaps it may be of interest to you, that I have sponsored the church =
records for St Leonards, Rodney Stoke for my Sydney Genealogical =
Society. They should arrive in the next few weeks. I am happy to look up =
anything for you if needed. These records should reveal any Rodney Stoke =
baptisms for the Taylors.
Yours sincerely,
Rosalind Torrent

Dear Rosalind,
I could not find baptisms for any more children in Wedmore. I presumed =
that
after the first child the others were probably baptised in Rodney Stoke.

Dear Stanley,
Thank you for the prompt reply to my email regarding the baptisms of the =
children of James and Hannah Taylor. Thanks to this and especially the =
previous email, I can now safely assume that Hannah Taylor's maiden name =
was Raines. (Were there any witnesses on the marriage record on 5th Jan, =
1775 in Wedmore? Or any other information? I guess you would already =
have told me if this were so.)
The next thing to look for is the baptism for Hannah Raines. Perhaps you =
can help me with this. Her date of birth was approximately 1750. Since =
she was married in Wedmore, perhaps she was born there. I have a =
possible father as William Raines.
Perhaps it may be of interest to you that in the next few weeks I will =
have access to the church records of St Leonards, Rodney Stoke, where =
many of my ancestors are probably mentioned. I would be happy to look up =
anything for you if needed. (I have sponsored their purchase by the =
Society of Australian Genealogists in Sydney.)
Yours sincerely

Dear Stanley,
Thank you for the information about the baptisms for Hannah Raines. =
Since she was buried in Rodney Stoke in 1817, aged 67, the most likely =
candidate would be November 29th, 1750, daughter of John Raynes.
Am I asking too much if you could find a marriage for this John Raynes =
and baptisms for any more of his children?

Dear Stanley,
Thank you very much for the extra Reines information. Do you belong to =
the Raines family? It is most likely I am a descendant of Hannah Raines, =
daughter of John Raines, baptised on 29th November, 1750.
I was interested in your comment about Michael Tutton. I guess he may be =
connected to the first email I sent to wedmore-admin@lists.tutton.org =
which he probably passed on to you. Perhaps you would pass this email on =
to him. I have the name of Ruth Tutton in a handwritten book dated 1799, =
written by John Reeves. There are many other local names mentioned in =
the book.

Thank you for the prompt reply to my email regarding the baptisms of the
children of James and Hannah Taylor. Thanks to this and especially the =
previous
email, I can now safely assume that Hannah Taylor's maiden name was =
Raines.
(Were there any witnesses on the marriage record on 5th Jan, 1775 in =
Wedmore?
Or any other information? I guess you would already have told me if this =
were
so.)

The next thing to look for is the baptism for Hannah Raines. Perhaps you =
can
help me with this. Her date of birth was approximately 1750. Since she =
was
married in Wedmore, perhaps she was born there. I have a possible father =
as
William Raines.

Perhaps it may be of interest to you that in the next few weeks I will =
have
access to the church records of St Leonards, Rodney Stoke, where many of =
my
ancestors are probably mentioned. I would be happy to look up anything =
for you
if needed. (I have sponsored their purchase by the Society of Australian
Genealogists in Sydney.)
written
by John Reeves. There are many other local names mentioned in the =
