[WED]WALL from Wedmore to Dubuque County, IA

Hi Sandi!

I hope we end up relatives  :o)   I am really just starting to dig into this
family and it is going to be a challenge.  WALL and BAKER seem quite common
names in the Wedmore area!  And I have to admit to being somewhat
intimidated so far by the fact that I have to learn about England's way of
doing things.

I am not even sure of the parish designation for the Wedmore area.  I can
tell already I need to find a map for some of these other villages I am
coming across - I have no idea of where one is in relation to another.  Do
you have any idea where I could order one from?

My whole "side" of this family made the migration from Wedmore to the Dodge
Twp., Dubuque Co, IA area - WALL, BAKER were the predominant names but there
are many others buried in the Johns Creek area as well - most with
"Somersetshire" listed as their birthplace on their tombstones.

I was "born and raised" in Dubuque County but I haven't lived there for 25+
years - though I get back about once a year.  I live in upstate NY - on the
VT border a little over an hour from Canada so I find myself doing long
distance searches as well.

Amelia Jane WALL was the only surviving child of William and Jane (Baker)
Wall.  I do not know yet when Jane died, but based on the time frame it was
likely in childbirth with a child after Amelia, though it could have been
some other illness as well.  William remarried Eliza Ann COX and they had
several children before emigrating 1865-68.  I have tripped over a couple
references to a John and Elizabeth WALL - I suspect, but do not know - that
the John WALL, father of the Edward you mention, may be John Wall brother to
my William Wall.  This is going to take some digging!  I know that William
did have a brother John, b.1833-34.  I do not know whether he came to Iowa
from England or not, but I always search sibling lines as well as they often
help to "tell the story".  I do know that William's sisters - Elizabeth
(mar. Richard "Dickie" BAKER) and (assumed sister) Jane (mar Joseph
COUNSELL) did come from Wedmore to the area.  I am finding some "odd" Walls
that also show up, but for who I can't place with a family yet.

Amelia Jane WALL married Joseph GREENWOOD, son of Joseph and Mary
(Delehanty) Greenwood, 13 Dec 1887 in Farley.  They had 11 children, one -
Sarah "Sadie" Greenwood was my grandmother.  She married Edmund VON FUMETTI,
and their son, Cyril VON FUMETTI is my father.  I originally got into this
genealogy "addiction" by going through Von Fumetti papers from Germany that
my father inherited!
