Hi Tim Curtin and John Hayward,
And apologies for not getting back to you sooner but it has been =
a busy week.
First of all I have done very little work on the Morgans beyond =
what I have already mentioned so I am unable to help with the =
descendants of William and Mary Morgan but I would have no problem in =
assuming that Emma is the daughter of Mary Morgan. If she were anything =
else , for instance a niece I think the Census would say so. My guess is =
that they were living at South Brent circa late 1830's. If all our =
Wedmore ancestors were born , raised , married , lived and died there =
then tracing them would be very easy and very boring but thats not the =
case. My fourth great grandfather for instance bought and worked farms =
at Stawell , Wookey , Godney and Wedmore and had children in each parish =
, eleven that survived to adulthood.
Now as regards the Bakers. I have a great number in my data base =
but not a single Lovibond. You did not give a date for the marriage of =
Joseph Baker and Maria Lovibond nor whether they can be located in a =
Census! I suggest you might take a look in the parishes of Middlezoy and =
Othery.......there seem to be plenty of Lovibonds there. The Joseph =
Baker you mentioned as the son of Benjamin Baker who married Ann Laver =
at Meare on 28 Jan 1813 I have marrying Elizabeth Seaman at Meare on 25 =
Mar 1851.The census was conducted just five days later so they are very =
much newly weds and from what I remember are living next door to =
Benjamin and Ann. Benjamin Baker is one of the sons of Joseph Baker and =
Hannah Wall that married at Wedmore on 26 Mar 1778. This Joseph and =
Hannah settled permanently at Meare circa 1790. The only Joseph Baker =
that I cannot account for is the son of William Baker and Ann Duckett =
who dissapears from sight after being baptised at Wedmore on 9 Oct 1819. =
There are three Hannah Walls to be considered here , namely those =
baptised at Wedmore in 1753 , 1760 and 1776.
The one baptised in 1760 is clearly the one that married Joseph =
Baker in 1778 as the records indicate that she is a minor.....maybe 18 =
years old. The one baptised in 1776 is the oldest child of Jeremiah Wall =
and Ann Stone. When she dies in Apr 1798 they christen their last =
daughter in memory of her......Hannah baptised 14 Jun 1798. The Hannah =
Wall baptised in 1753 marries John Baker on 4 Jan 1773 and here both =
bride and groom are minors indicating a birth year circa 1753 for John. =
This couple appear to have moved from Wedmore post 1778 but not too far =
as two of their children later marry at Wedmore. We also have a Richard =
Baker that married Mary Wall on 14 Dec 1778 at Wedmore. As the register =
indicated that she is also a minor this must be the Mary baptised on 23 =
Mar 1758 and the sister of the Hannah that married John Baker. My theory =
is that John , Richard and Joseph Baker are the sons of the 'mysterious' =
Joseph Baker and Pheobe and that they were born at Banwell in the =
1750's. If anyone has the time to look at the Banwell registers this =
might be confirmed. If it is indeed the case then we have two brothers =
marrying two sisters. Pop quiz.....can anyone identify the relationship =
between the sisters Hannah and Mary Wall that married John Baker and =
Richard Baker respectively and the Hannah Wall that married Joseph =
Baker? Are they (a) first cousins , (b) first cousins once removed or =
(c) second cousins.
The James Keen you mention I have as marrying Ann Baker on 20 Mar =
1809 at Meare. She is the daughter of the above mentioned Joseph Baker =
and Hannah Wall and was baptised at Meare on 13 Jan 1792 which ties in =
with her age at death as forty nine in Sep 1841.Her brother is the =
Benjamin Baker that marries Ann Laver mentioned above and the Jonathon =
Wall that married my Mary Brown is her grand uncle!
By the way do you know anything about the parents of the Edwin =
Baker in the Meare 1851 Census , farmer born at Ansford? My second great =
grand aunt from Wookey is visiting him and his wife Elizabeth =
(Churchouse) but how she is his niece I cannot fathom.
Well I hope some of this has helped you and please let me know if =
you find any errors.
Regards,
Stephen L. Brown slb2@ix.netcom.com
