Hello Stan and anyone else researching the Mapstone name.
Finally, yes finally !! - upon checking, Reuben Mapstone was indeed buried
in 1849 - in fact he died early at the age of 35 in a quarry blast 3 or 4
miles from Compton Martin.
Reuben's name was familiar as he was the *father* of Henry and George who
both emigrated to the USA and they built a double house where Henry lived on
one side and George on the other. This house was still standing in Nanticoke,
Pennsylvania in 1968, the date of a peice of correspondence.
This information was in response to local Somerset newspaper articles seeking
information on the family of Reuben Mapstone in Somerset in 1968 by a Mr.
Brace from the USA.
Apparently a daughter of Reuben's also emigrated to the USA, perhaps along
with the former, and as Reuben only shows one daughter in my records it must
have been Charlotte.
Does this information confer with possible gaps in the local English records
such as marriage and death ?
I have a full page photocopy of a photo of Henry Mapstone and his wife Mary
Ann Locke Mapstone if you are interested plus more copies of correspondence
concerning these particular Mapstones in the USA.
