The Nancy Wall question has raised questions. I believe I can provide the
definitive answer as to her lineage.
John Hayward has Nancy Wall, bap. 7/6/1790, daughter of Ann Stone and
Jerimiah Wall marrying John Pople 9/5/1816 by Banns. Page 24, record 70.
Witnesses were George Clapp and Jerimiah Wall. The other Nancy Wall,
baptised 29/9/1791, daughter of Sarah Fuller and John Wall married William
Gibbs 13/10/13 by Licence. Page 6, record 17. Witnesses were John Wall and
Edward Sweet.
Among the family memorabilia which I have become keeper of is a gazeteer of
the world, published between 1763 and 1776, sans covers as well as numerous
first and last pages, which has a number of penned and penciled notations on
the backs of several of its maps. Of interest in the present case, are two:
Between OXF and OZW - "John Stone was born March / the 31 in 1752 / Ann
stone was born / October the 24th in 1755 / now the wife of Jeremiah / Wall
/ Jeremiah Walls Book (in pen) / Jeremiah Walls / Ann Walls (in pencil)
Between DUF and DUM - "William Gibbs / Nancy Gibbs" (in ink, by a single
writer) "William Gibbs Wedmore" (in pencil)
Early in its life this book apparently was owned by John(1752) Stone. It
passed to the Jeremiah(1752) Wall family with his marriage to John Stone's
sister, Ann(1755) Stone. It passed through Jeremiah Wall's daughter,
Nancy(1790b) Wall with her marriage to William(1790) Gibbs, and on down to
me, Charles(1919) Gibbs.
William and Nancy Gibbs, with their five youngest children emigrated in
1842, settling in New York, Ononodaga County, Jordan area. Nancy died
1849.08.06 at Jordan, "age 60, unmarried, male, native, consumption" (sic),
(Records of Births and Deaths" Town Clerk's office, Jordan, NY) and was
buried at the Old Cemetery, Jordan.
Does this help?
=20 We have both Jerimiah
and John descended from William Wall, born = about 1540. =20
Are you descended from any of these? =20 For Tim: Do you
agree with the above please? =20 John V Hayward in The
Heritage Coast, Suffolk, England. john@hayward2.fsnet.co.uk
