I know there are lots of you whose Wedmore ancestors went to Iowa. Has
anyone been successful in finding the passenger manifest or vessel involved?
I have looked at several websites and also some immigration index books but
have found nothing that looks likely. Any success stories or suggestions
would be appreciated. Maybe they came in groups and your success will also
be mine.
My Wedmore relative is William Wall (one of the many by that name).
William, his wife Amelia Wall (nee Wall) and their two children came to
Iowa.
The date clues I have are as follows:
1. The 1900 US census for Farley Town, Dubuque Co., Iowa shows William Wall
(b. July 1835 – age 69) and his wife Amelia (born Jan 1841 – age 59), and
states that they arrived in the US in 1864 and have been there 36 years. It
also indicates that William is naturalized and that they had 7 children and
7 are still living.
2. The 1880 US census for Cascade, Dubuque Iowa shows the Wall family with 5
of their 7 children living at home. Only 19 year old George S. Wall (born
1861) and 17 year old Annie Elizabeth Wall (b. Aug 1862) were born in
England. This is also confirmed on the 1870 census where only the first 5
children have been born, 2 in England and 3 in Iowa.
