Dear Don
I have found some extra information on your Davey family from the Wedmore PR
baptisms (1813-1900) as transcribed by my cousin John Hayward.
John Davey snr (1782- ) was living in Theale, about 4 miles east of Wedmore,
in 1817-1821; in 1817 he is said to be a farmer there when Hester M. Davey
was baptised (on 3 April 1817). Two years later and subsequently he is
listed as shopkeeper when David (bap. 18 July 1819) and Maria Millard Davey
(bap. 30 Sept 1821) arrived on the scene.
Theale was originally part of Wedmore parish, but around 1825 became a
parish in its own right. That could explain lack of mention of Elizabeth and
George.
But I wonder where your Walter ancestors came from? - my great-grandmother
was Ann Walter of Wedmore, daughter of Joseph Walter of Glastonbury, and
wife of Timothy Curtin I; her brother Joseph Walter II emigrated to USA
about 1880-90, and Ann's daughter Mary Ellen Curtin joined him in Farley,
Iowa, about 1895, where she married Robert Lee Pitman (also descended from
families from in and around Wedmore).
Best wishes
Tim Curtin
