Nancy,

The Castle family that I am a part of came from Oxford. So we cannot be held
responsible. The Castle name in fair widespread the highest density of
Castles is in Kent followed by Oxford. There are a few in the Wedmore
registers in the 17th century when there was a family of them in Cocklake.
There are only about eight entries in the local phone directory so there are
not many in the area now.
As you probably know it used to be quite common for the children of a couple
to be given the mother's maiden name as a second Christian name. The nearest
example is when Hannah Pople's daughter married a Porter their children were
named Pople Porter.
There is a possibility the George was named after a geographical location
(maybe where he was conceived). There is an area called Castle and a Castle
farm at Heath House and a Fenny Castle a mile or so south of Wookey.
I think that a family name is probably the best bet (maybe even a maiden
aunt with a lot of money to leave, who might be persuaded to leave it to a
nephew carrying her name - parents think wishfully.

Stanley Castle

Hi, I have a question for Stanley Castle. My great-grandfather, George
Redman, came to America in 1851 from Wedmore. One of his sons is named
George Castle Redman. George died in 1887. We have always been curious
about George's middle name, Castle, and thought it might have been a family
name. When I saw your post, I wondered if you might have any information
about George Redman since he named one of his sons Castle. Would you have
any insight on this?

Thanks.
