A few thoughts re Wilkins/Spearing/Ashton Mill connections:

Simon Spearing of Wookey married Mary Wilkins, soujourner in the parish of
Meare, at Meare on 1st March 1802.

She was probably the daughter of Thomas Wilkins (born c 1735, Wedmore) and
his second wife, Mary Jenkins.

By Thomas' first wife, Mary ? (1739 - 1764), he had a son Thomas
Wilkins(born 1761 Wedmore, died 1836, Chapel Allerton).

Thomas Wilkins married Ann Look of Woolavingdon in 1785 at Wedmore. They
had several children including Paul, ch 30 May 1788 Wedmore. Paul Wilkins
died 12 Jan 1867 at Ashton Mill. He was buried at Chapel Allerton.
He married Margaret Hogg of Woolavingdon in 1810.

Thomas and Ann's other Wedmore christened children were:
Sarah, 1787
Luke, 1790

>From 1792, the rest of Thomas Wilkins and Ann Look's children, were all
christened at Chapel Allerton:
John, 1792
Thomas, 1794
Samuel, 1798
Amelia, 1800
Flora, 1796

Getting back to the Spearings: In the 1881 census, there is a Paul Wilkins
Spearing, born c 1849 at Wedmore. He was a master miller at the steam mill
at Shapwick. I wonder if he was a son of John Spearing and Ann Lawrence.

In the same census, Mary Spearing, born c 1842 at Wedmore, was unmarried,
acting as housekeeper to retired miller, Edwin Wilkins at the Mill House,
Chapel Allerton. I wonder if this Mary later became Mary Comer.
