Hello again Kristen, I have now had a chance to compare your information =
against mine. There is little doubt in my mind that Henry and Elizabeth =
Popham were the parents of your Edwin Popham. I am listing my =
information below.
Edwin was baptised on 27 7 1826, probably in Blackford, I will check.

1841 census, (I have recorded, at Westham, but I have some doubts as to =
whether this is right. I know from a contemporary map that Henry was =
living in the centre of Blackford about this time, perhaps both are =
correct, as the age of the map could be a few years either side of =
1841.)
Henry Popham age 45
Elizabeth 40
Elizabeth 23
Charlotte 22
George 18
Edwin 15
Henry 13
Note that ages in this census were only correct to the nearest 5 years, =
however, Elizabeth's age looks suspect.=20

1851 census, at Wells Way, Blackford.
Henry Popham age 58, farmer, 50 acres, born Westham, Wedmore.
Elizabeth 59 born Mark.
Mary 36, daughter born Mark.
Edwin 24, son born Wedmore.
Gabriel 1, visitor born Wedmore.=20
Gabriel may be a grandson.

Gravestones in Blackford Churchyard.
1) Betsy Popham died 28 11 1870, aged 76 years.
    Henry Popham died 30 7 1877, aged 81 years.
    Mary Popham died 18 2 1890, aged 76 years.
2) Henry Popham died 22 4 1912, aged 84 years.
    Elizabeth Popham died 16 2 1902, aged 78 years.
Henry Popham the elder died at Brent, but I do not know if he was living =
there.

I have also looked at the 1881 census, and found some of Edwin's =
brothers and sisters.
Henry and his wife in Nyland.
Elizabeth, unmarried in Banwell.
George and wife and family in Mark.
Mary, unmarried in South Brent.
I can't find Edwin (or Stephen), and I assume that they were already in =
the USA, but Elizabeth and Rosina Duckett were still in England living =
with Elizabeth's brother Michael. As the marriages took place in late =
1881, it would be interesting to know the circumstances which lead to =
the marriages. Courtship must have been very short or conducted by post.

My American information comes from an unpublished Duckett family tree =
researched by Jemima Thom. She was a descendant of an Edward Duckett, =
who was Elizabeth Popham's (Duckett) brother. Edward emigrated to =
Dubuque County in 1866. In 1871 he moved to Buchanan County. I suspect =
that the Pophams may have settled nearby. Stephen Popham, his father and =
the marriages are mentioned in the introduction. The rest is on =
Ducketts. Curiously she refers to Edwin as Henry, I assume that was a =
mistake, unless he was known by both names.

Finally I have a pair of large oil paintings of Henry Popham and his =
wife. These come to our family because Henry's sister Jane Clarke was my =
paternal grandmother's, maternal grandmother. They were painted around =
1840. I am still not 100% certain that the "two Henry Pophams" are the =
same, but there seems to be only one Henry Popham in Blackford at this =
time.
I will try to make certain that this is the case, and then check on =
Henry's parents. Let me know if any of this is confusing.
Matthew Duckett.
