The Blackford History Group are anouncing the launch of their book on =
the history of Blackford. This will be available for distribution after =
27th November. Although it will be on sale in some shops in Wedmore, it =
will not be generally available. It is not expected that there will be a =
second print run and over half the copies are already sold. If you are =
interested in buying a copy, you may contact me , Matthew Duckett, at =
mathew.ducket1@btopenworld.com , and I will forward full details. This =
is not a commercial venture and has been financed with the assistance of =
a local government grant.
I am listing the contents below. You should bear in mind that this book =
arose from an exhibition in the village hall. It is not intended to be a =
comprehensive history of Blackford but reflects the interests of those =
involved.

Forward by Peter Tinney, Map of 1782, Map of 1880,Blackford Village =
Timeline, Blackford General Views (photographs), Farming Timeline, Henry =
Tucker's Account Book 1813-1848, Farms and Farmers, Education, Holy =
Trinity Church, Weddings (photographs), Trade and Industry, Houses, =
People (including Charles Fear), Four Generations at The Elms (The =
Blackford Duckett Family), Marion Duckett's Letters (To her Brother =
Walter in New Zealand), Emigration from the Blackford Area, The =
Cottagers of Cotton Street (Wells Way), The First World War 1914-1918, =
The Second World War 1939-1945, Blackford Flood 1968, Sports and =
Pastimes, Blackford Village Hall, Stoughton, Poplar Farm in West =
Stoughton (The Isgar Family), Westham, Celebrations, Blackford Today.
The book is about 150 pages, with photographs in most sections, from =
1859 onwards.
I should perhaps explain the title, "Round About" is the way lacal =
people would say "around and about" meaning "in the area".
We are proud of the finished book and hope that it will be of interest =
to some of you.
Matthew Duckett.
