Hi Mike

I've been doing a bit of off list helping but the more heads the better so I
am bringing it back to the list. Hopefully Linda won't mind. This is what I
have found so far -

In 1851 the youngest William Lovell is aged 18 and a servant at Mark born at
Mark.... far too old for the one we want.

Later I checked for Williams parents George Lovell and Eliza Cock and here
is his father still at home and unmarried, so either William was born in
1852 as had been suggested or he was illegitimate. If he was born 1852 he
was far too young to marry in 1864. He could have been born in 1846 and
baptised in 1852 when his parents married though. The Parish record would
possible say if it was checked.

POPLE George Widow/er 40 Guilder Wedmore, Som.
LOVELL John 28 son Ag. Lab Wedmore, Som.
George 21 Ag. Lab son Wedmore, Som.
Charles 18 Ag. Lab son Wedmore, Som.

So I looked for Eliza and found the following 3 entries for Eliza Cock

COCK William 45 Farmer 34 Acres Wedmore, Som.
Ann 45 Allerton
Eliza 29 Wedmore, Som.
Morice 19 Not Stated Birthplace
Maria 17 Not Stated Birthplace
Emma 15 Not Stated Birthplace
Edward 11 Not Stated Birthplace
Robert 9 Not Stated Birthplace
Ellen 7 Scholar Wedmore, Som.
Jane 5 Wedmore, Som.
Stoagh Dn ? Cross ??

Benjamin 48 Farmer 50 Acres Wedmore, Som.
Nancy 44 Wedmore, Som.
Charles 20 Wedmore, COCK Som.
James 18 Wedmore, Som.
Mary 15 Wedmore, Som.
Eliza 12 Wedmore, Som.
Sarah 6 Wedmore, Som.
Ann 3 Wedmore, Som.

John 45 COCK Farmer 60 Acres Wedmore, Som.
Phobe 43 Wedmore, Som.
Eliza 18 Wedmore, Som.
Sarah 15 Wedmore, Som.
William 13 Wedmore, Som.
Betsy 9 Wedmore, Som.
John 5 Wedmore, Som.
LEIGH Adam Servant 25 Ag. Lab Wedmore, Som.

Obviously the 12 year old should be ruled out. At first I thought the 18
year old was the right one but then I realised it would be unlikely as she
would have only been 13 or 14 when William was born if she was his mother.
Linda said there was something about Stoughton Cross and so I now think it
is the 29 year old who married George Lovell. (Linda has the marriage
certificate in 1864 so hopefully it says what her age was and her father,
who should be William if I am right. That also fits with naming her son
William. So, where was William?

I think this is him here BUT there is a possibility he is the son of William
and Ann the parents of Eliza as most of their children are young. Actually
Eliza seems quite old to be their daughter so I'd be checking that on the
original census.

HEATH Robert 47 Ag. Lab Wedmore, Som.
Elizabeth 41 School Mistress Axbridge, Som.
Lot 16 Scholar Wedmore, Som.
Ann 11 Wedmore, Som.
William Brother 46 Ag. Lab Wedmore, Som.
COCK William Lodger 4 Wedmore, Som.

I also found the birth registration for William Cock in 1846 on Free BDM and
have passed the details to Linda.

I think the original sources might need to be checked and the original
parish records for baptisms and marriages. I can't find anything on the IGI.

Does anyone have the 1861 that they can check for the above people?

cheers

Lyn
