Dear John Hayward,

Hope you are still working on Wedmore! I understand that Emmett Polder =
who died in January 2009 wrote a book on the English families in Iowa, =
which should be appearing soon, and should be of interest to your =
Wedmore group. I will let you know when I hear it is out.

Perhaps you can help on this little mystery!

With all good wishes,

Mary Thacher

Dear Bob,

Thanks for sending that on to me. I have not given much thought to the =
Dyersville families lately and after getting this email I went back to =
my files and found the following

On the Wedmore website, there are two cousins, John Hayward of England =
and Tim Curtin of Australia who wrote to me about the Dyer, Burnett and =
Tyley families John Hayward has a family tree site on ancestry.com.

He says that Hester Tyley, wife of James Dyer (1792-1884) was the =
daughter of William Tyley and Susanna Gibbs. Hester Tyley and James =
Dyer had a daughter Emma, who was born 2 oct 1832, and died 24 jan 1833 =
and buried in Wedmore.. In the 1850 US Census James and Hester Dyer are =
in Dubuque Co IA with a Harriet Dyer, who was 17 years old at the time, =
born in England [abt 1833]. Was she a twin or a sister to Emma? Did she =
come from a completely different family? I could not find anything more =
on her in Iowa.

The email you send raises questions about the Hester Tyley (1817-1899) =
who was the wife of John Dyer (1814 - 1878), oldest son of James Dyer =
and his first wife Mary ---. She was purportedly the daughter of John =
and Hannah --- Tyley, although Dyer family tradition says she was the =
daughter of the Hester Tyley who married James Dyer, father of John, but =
this does not seem possible, esp with the birth records in Wedmore. =
Both of her parents, if they were John and Hannah Tyley, died before the =
John Dyers left Wedmore in 1849. How was John Tyley husband of Hannah, =
related to Hester Tyler wife of James Dyer??

Her brother Paul emigrated with her and her family on the steamship =
Sarah Sands in 1849 to America, he was perhaps the child John, baptized =
on 21 apr 1821, At the time of emigration Hester Tyley was 34, and Paul =
Tyley 28. The daughter of John and Hester Dyer, Jennie or Jane Dyer b. =
1845 was not on this list, nor was the mysterious Harriet Dyer. =
Furthermore Paul Tyley and John Dyer, the youngest child of John and =
Hester Dyer, appear on a different page from the rest of the family in =
the passenger lists for the Sarah Sands. William Dyer and his first =
wife Louisa Wooley, were also on this ship, as was Mary Richards =
(1837-1917), who became his third wife, with her mother and stepfather, =
Paul Tyley died in Iowa after 1860 when he appears in the census with =
the John Dyers, and is buried with them at the Mount Hope Cemetery in =
Dyersville.

I have put my family tree on Ancestry.com, but have not added much on =
the forebears of the Tyleys or on Mary Richards family, but will later.

Meanwhile thanks for letting me know about this,

Best wishes,

Mary
