Frederick George Mapstone (1866-1899) the son of Jane Carver of Wedmore,  and 
George Mapstone, was a Sgt. in the Natal Carbineers, he was shot during the  
fighting in the Long Valley during the siege of Ladysmith, 3rd. Nov.  1899, 
during the Boer War. He was awarded the Queen's SA Medal.
